Once I have my swarm trap prepared how should I position it?

The swarm trap should be positioned about 8 – 10 feet above the ground, near a treeline. If possible the opening should face Southeast.

Why do bees swarm?

Swarming is a part of the natural reproductive cycle of honeybees. They will usually only swarm when there is an abundance of natural resources. They will begin making swarm preparations when their hive becomes overcrowded. The act of swarming will naturally reduce the hive population as half of the bees leave with the old queen.

When is the best time to begin setting up swarm traps?

Timing is everything! You want to have your traps set and loaded with Swarm Bait a few weeks before swarming occurs in your area. The timing will be different for all beekeepers as the swarming impulse is greatly affected by the micro-climate and nectar availability in your region. Tip: Talk to local Beekeepers in your area to learn when swarming may occur.

Is swarming a good thing?

In general, swarming is good for bees, but bad for Beekeepers. Unless, of course, you are able to capture those swarms. Then it is great for you and the bees.
